Modify Add/Remove list : Windows 7 & Windows XP

on Tuesday, January 26, 2010

Add/Remove list becomes bigger when you install more programs.  It is possible to remove programs which are not required to be displayed in the Add/Remove list (The removed list can be restored later).  This gives you an option to hide programs which you wish not to appear in the list or which you do not wish to be uninstalled.

This can be a key logger or a screen capture program that you have installed to keep a check on your child.  And you dont want him to go to the Add Remove Programs and uninstall it.

This is how we do it.

2.   Right click in the window, Select New and then Boolean and name it "extensions.CheckCompatibility" (without quotes) and set the value of it to False.

3.   Restart the browser.

on Wednesday, January 13, 2010

ISO file is an image of an optical disc.  It contains all information like boot code, structure and attributes of the original disc.

Burning ISO files require a software support in Windows XP and Vista.  The popular software Nero does it beautifully, but with a cost added to it.  Nero is not a free software; moreover it is not light-weight.  Though there are many softwares available for burning ISO files, most of them are trial-versions and require you to pay for the full version.

Remove password protection from PDF files

on Friday, January 8, 2010

PDF files can be protected and locked using a password to disable it to be printed, modified or extracted.  Even when you know the password of a certain file, it is difficult to get rid of the password protection without removing the protection from it.

There are two ways of doing it.

The first way is to print the files to a PDF printer like PrimoPDF.  But this works only if the files have permission to be printed.  Sometimes, saving the files with a different name also removes the password protection.
